HISTORY of DENNISON

Approximately 175 years ago, the story began with Aaron Lufkin Dennison, who is known as the father of American watchmaking.

His journey took him from America to Switzerland, and then to England, where he founded the Dennison Watch Case Company.

Along the way, Dennison developed numerous patents and new metal alloys for cases, laying the foundation for modern watchmaking.

In America, he co-founded the Waltham Watch Company, and in England, he built one of the world's largest watch case manufacturers.

The vision that Dennison conceived still lives on today, 175 years later, within the philosophy and spirit that we uphold.

Behind the Name of a Renowned Prestigious School

For much of the 20th century, Denison was renowned for manufacturing cases for prestigious brands such as Rolex, Omega, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and Zenith.

These are all brands that have shaped the watch industry as we know it today.

Leading the way was Dennison.

As a company with Anglo-American roots, Dennison was truly at the heart of creativity.

Dennison's case makers at the time were not just people who "built to spec."

They led manufacturing, starting with design.

Original case forms. Superb design. Craftsmanship and precise forging techniques.

And numerous patents related to waterproof and dustproof structures.

All of these made Dennison a pioneer of its time.

Cases Selected for Historical Moments

For over 50 years, DENNISON manufactured watch cases and various measuring instruments for the British military. Throughout these many years, they established an unshakeable reputation for outstanding quality and reliability.

It is therefore no surprise that in 1953, when Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay made the first ascent of Mount Everest in human history, all 13 Smiths watches that reached the summit were equipped with DENNISON's "Aquatite" waterproof cases.

Furthermore, Lieutenant Commander Lithgow, who piloted the Supermarine Swift and set a new world air speed record, also wore a watch with a DENNISON case on his wrist.

The fact that DENNISON was continuously chosen for extreme environments speaks volumes about its technical prowess and reliability.

Recreating the Best of Denison's History for the Modern Era

In our research, our leadership team, comprised of passionate watch enthusiasts, refused to compromise.

We thoroughly delved into Denison's vast archives and historical documents, continuously seeking inspiration.

There, we encountered an undeniably thrilling discovery.

Numerous documents, photographs, and timepiecesโ€”

They were a veritable treasure trove, clearly pointing the way forward for the brand.

With sufficient inspiration, we entrusted the design of our first collection to the world-renowned watch designer, Emmanuel Gueit.

Having designed numerous iconic watches for Audemars Piguet, Rolex, Piaget, and others, he created an unforgettable collection that naturally connected Denison's story, which had paused in the 1960s, to the present day.

Respect for the past creates the future.

Our deep respect for Dennison's history is the driving force that propels our future.

We have traveled the world to understand the rich history of the Dennison Watch Case Company. From the archives of the New York Horological Society to the living room of A.L. Dennison's biographer's widow, we have thoroughly researched and traced their footsteps to honor the legacy of this once great watch company.

And we are on a mission to restore its name to greatness.
